There are organized tours from Rome that include Pompeii, but you can easily do this on your own by train. Take the train from Rome to Naples - the Eurostar takes about 2 hours and costs 20 euro each way if you can get the Amica fare (25 euro if only the standard fare is available. There's one at 6:35 am that arrives in Naples at 8:38.
In Naples, you need to transfer to the Circumvesuviana train and go to the Pompei Scavi stop.
