The most common complaint from any kid or teen would be the dreaded "I'm bored!". Constantly using electronics like computers and cellphones, modern youth can be hard to entertain when they get bored of computer games and texting. A great way to spend spare time is reading a good book-whether it is Twilight or Pride and Prejudice. But how do you find a book you will enjoy? Read on to find out.
A great way to find a good book is to research before you go to the bookstore or library. Do you have any favorite authors? See if they have any new books. Maybe a friend has some good recommendations... ask around! The important thing is to have an idea of what kind of book you want before you buy/check out one. Next, go to either a bookstore or your local library. Bookstores have a better selection of new books, but they can get expensive. Libraries often have a few new releases, and are free! Then, go to either the fiction or non-fiction section, depending on what kind of book you have already decided on. What genre do you like? Find the section specific to your tastes, whether its fantasy, science fiction or biography.
Now, it is time to break the rule of a common proverb: judge books by their covers! Authors choose covers that best represent their books, so if you like the cover, chances are that you will enjoy the story inside! The opposite is true for covers that you don't like. Another way to choose books is by looking at specific authors, or the new release shelf. Find two or more books these ways. Then narrow your search down. Are any of these books ones your friends recommended? Are any by your favorite authors? Keep this in mind as you rank your prospective books, with one being the best.
You now have a lot of books, don't you? It can be hard to choose your favorites, since you obviously have not read them at this point. Sadly, before you can read them you have to buy or check them out. Decide now how many you will bring home. One? Two? Eleven? It's your choice. Once you have your books, you can purchase or take them out of a library. If you go to a bookstore, just buy these treasures at the cash register. If you are at your local library, you may need a library card before you can check out your books. These can be either free or inexpensive, and they are worth it! Just give your card to a librarian to scan at the front desk, and you can be on your way. At last, you can finally go home to relax with a good book.
Choosing the perfect book can be time consuming, but well worth the extra effort. Reading is a rewarding way to entertain yourself and improve your vocabulary. What other activity is fun and infomative? Not many! The only thing that can make reading better is reading a book you picked out yourself. So get off your computer and go read a great book!

The Da Vinci Code kind of woke up a sleepy publishing industry and caught it by surprise. It generated so much discussion - pro and con that it got so much free publicity it couldn't help but succeed. It is the first book I can think of in a very long time that generated that much chatter among people. The last one I can really think of was The Exorcist back in the 80's. Everybody was talking about it. That is what makes a book a runaway best seller. People may have disagreed with it, but they were still talking about it and buying it and reading it.
