Are You Ready for the World of Magazine Printing?
Are you thinking about getting into the Magazine business? Did you know that it was possible to print your own magazine? Getting into the magazine business can seem like a difficult task. There is a lot that goes into it including gathering ideas for a semi-monthly or monthly magazine. In addition you need to have advertisers that help to offset some of the costs that you will incur. You will need to decide if you want to have pictures in your magazine. Once you get all of these items in place, then you need to decide on magazine printing options.
How do you decide how often to publish your magazine? The answer to that question depends on how often you want to gather information for it. It may be easier to start with a bi-monthly magazine. If your magazine is not monthly, some customers may decide not to subscribe because they forget about it during that off month. Since most magazines printing happens at least monthly, your competition will be very steep.
Magazine printing and creation means that you need to set editorial dates for each portion of your magazine. You cannot hope that it all comes together in time for printing. Having a set date each month helps decrease some of the confusion that can happen by having a drop dead date on the third Tuesday of every month. Having it on the 15th of every month is easier to remember and also easier for you to maintain. From setting a drop dead date, you have to establish a theme for the magazine at each printing. You can follow the seasons for the particular area that you are covering. Within the seasons, you can talk about the particular holidays that are covered. Break the magazine down into sections and then brainstorm issues for the entire year. Once you plug them into your timeline, you are ready.
Will you write all of the articles? Chances are great that if you are running the day-to-day portion of the business, you will really not want the responsibility of writing as well. In that case you will need to assign writers to your articles. If you have not worked with them in the past, you may want to establish earlier dates for their deadlines so you can review their work and give feedback. There is nothing worse that getting to the deadline and reviewing the work and not being happy with it. Magazine printing can be very stressful.
