The Concept of Death in Islam (5) the Sleep = temporary Death

This is the fifth article of the series, The Concept of Death in Islam.

In this article, the Quran states that the Sleep = temporary Death.

 

In the verses 39:42, the Quran says that the Sleep is but a temporary Death.

 

Verse 39:42 says that Allah takes the souls of:

1. Those who died (their predetermined ages are over)

2. Those who are sleeping; and they are of two kinds:

1. Those who are died (their predetermined ages are over)
2. Those who are sleeping but not died.

 

What Allah does with these souls?

1. Allah retains and keeps those for whom He has ordained Death and their predetermined ages are over.
2. Allah releases and dismisses the souls of those who are sleeping but not died.

 

Consequently, the sleep in the Quran is but a state of temporary Death.

Then the verse says that truly in that, mentioned herein, there are signs for those who reflect and think.

 

Who was thinking in the verse?

The British Professor Dr. Alison who embraced Islam took thought of this verse.

Dr. Alison is the head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in the University of London. He had been the president of the British Society for Psychological and Spiritual Studies for several years.

He published a paper, "sleep and death in the light of the Quranic verse 39:42"

 

Verse 39:42 in four different translations

 

QARIB:

Allah takes away souls at the time of their Death (the temporary Death of sleep), and those who do not die during their sleep he withholds that upon which he has decreed Death, but turns lose the other till a stated term. Surely, there are signs in this for a nation who contemplate.

 

SHAKIR:

Allah takes the souls at the time of their Death, and those that die not during their sleep; then he withholds those on whom he has passed the decree of Death and sends the others back till an appointed term; most surely there are signs in this for a people who reflect.

 

PICKTHAL:

Allah receiveth (men's) souls at the time of their Death, and that (soul) which dieth not (yet) in its sleep. He keepeth that (soul) for which he hath ordained Death and dismisseth the rest till an appointed term. Lo! Herein verily are portents for people who take thought.

 

YUSUFALI:

It is Allah that takes the souls (of men) at Death; and those that die not (he takes) during their sleep: those on whom he has passed the decree of Death, he keeps back (from returning to life), but the rest he sends (to their bodies) for a term appointed verily in this are signs for those who reflect.

Father and mother passed neither left a will. Father signed deed for church, church need death cert. for loan

My sisters nor I knew that our father may have helped to purchase this church property some 30 yrs ago. We were recently asked for a death certificate by the pastor so that the church could get a loan, the church property will be collateral. Do we have a interest in this property, and what will happen if the loan default?

It is probably the title company that need the D.C. They will need a title insurance policy for the loan, which is why the lender asked for it and they will pass it on to the title company. This is common when someone passes without a will and had ownership in property.
