Make a Choice of Being Only Happy
My advice to you is not to inquire why or whither, but just to enjoy your ice cream while it's on your plate -Thornton Wilder
Life gives us many things on our plate. Some of us are plain lucky while others miss many things in life. Life is not fair. There is difference in everything that we get and what others get. Here comes the question of choices. I have come across people who were dealt very good hand by life but they felt no reason to be happy. I have also come across people who played with a very bad hand and won the game.
We all have choices. Our choices sometimes make us happy but other times they make us sad. What we choose to do and how we chose to act affects our immediate life and our long range goals. We can make some changes in our choices and learn to love life again.
The first thing that we must do is decide that we want to be happy. Being happy is not a given with life. Everything that we do plays a part in our happiness. When we decide to look at the good things in our life, we are on the way to finding our true happiness. We should learn to seek out those people who always seem to be upbeat, positive people. If possible, we should stay far away from those who are always "down in the mouth', unpleasant or chronically unhappy. It is extremely hard to learn to love life if we are surrounded by those who do not.
Whenever we are around some people, we find ourselves always smiling and enjoying ourselves. When we find ourselves in situations where we are not happy, then we need to take a step back and try to figure out what the differences are.
Many times we are happy when we are around people who are positive and happy themselves. Those kinds of people were not born with a different set of values or even an obvious funny bone. Somehow they have learned to enjoy the little things and let the daily troubles slide right off.
Everyone has those kinds of choices. They are a daily occurrence that we each face, such as traffic jams, an irritable person in the family, and a long line at the bank or grocery store. Sometimes we find ourselves even facing choices because of something as simple as the weather or as difficult as finances. The way we handle these daily happenings is going to determine how we act and feel and certainly how others perceive us.
Part of making choices depends upon our own attitudes and whether or not we are generally positive. Each person needs to take an account of their behavior and their feelings and be able to verbalize how they feel in many situations. By tuning into how we feel if we are lonely, dejected, and unhappy or even being ignored, we can learn if there might be better options for our behavior and some way to choose to act in any of those situations.
Choices we make will determine how we feel at any given time. The friends we enjoy being around make personal decisions to be happy and not be "down in the mouth". We can do the same thing by watching others who always seem happy and by making conscious efforts to keep ourselves in a happy place and not let the little things bug us or make us react negatively. Being a positive person is a choice that takes time to learn to do but becomes easier the more times we do it. We can actually learn to love life simply by making choices that make us happy and choosing to react in a happy way.

If cost is a factor, a local library should have at least one copy. If you are able to consider buying the book, any used bookstore is likely to have a copy. It is a very popular work. Of course, a regular bookstore would have it. Then there is the Cliff Notes. They sometimes include text excerpts in their summarizations, as I recall. But it has been a long time since I used Cliff Notes so don't quote me on that.
